Setting Your Vision – The Journey Sermon – Part 1

Everyone ends up somewhere, but few people end up somewhere on purpose.

There are a lot of accidental things going on in the world, especially when we take God out of the equation. We end up getting off course, and we make mistakes (sin). But seeking God during our journey gives us direction and helps us to avoid making these mistakes, especially when we take the time to set our vision on what’s truly important and to lay out a road map for how to accomplish our goals. This is true in spiritual goals, life goals, and career goals.

Creating an Action Plan

Some of us set goals like losing weight, getting out of debt, finding a new job, or working on relationships. Those are all great things to work towards, and this is definitely the time of year (January) to re-focus on accomplishing such goals. But without planning and reorganizing our schedules, these goals will never be achieved. Can you lose weight without taking time to plan healthy meals, shop for ingredients, and schedule exercise into your busy schedule? No. But you can choose to deliberately work those things into your life, and to do them purposefully until they become a habit. You have to set your vision on the goal, and then breakdown the steps to achieve them. It’s not good enough to just write down a goal, we must plan for a way to achieve it.

“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Proverbs 29:18

What is your vision for 2014? Have you prayed about it?

If you don’t get your vision set right, you’ll never get there. It’s just like using a camera…if you don’t focus the lens, you’ll get a fuzzy picture every time! So if you’re unsure of what God is calling you to do this year, or how He plans to use your talents in this world, we encourage you to spend time praying about it. Prayer is so powerful, and it gives you a chance to quietly listen for God’s voice and direction for your life.
