Worse than a lie?
Now, don’t get me wrong, I think a flat out lie is not the best route to go. But there is one thing that stands out in my mind that is potentially more damaging than a blatant lie, that’s telling only a partial truth.
For example, Matthew 4.6:
He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
Here, Satan is tempting Jesus with the opportunity to serve him (Satan) and challenging him with the Word of God. Because we’ve been taught that Satan is the father of all lies, we know what he’s saying is taken out of context, but have you ever looked at the context it was taken out of?
Psalm 91, in it Satan uses the verses 11 & 12 (as stated above), but let’s take a look at vs. 9 & 10
If you make the Most High you dwelling – even the Lord, who is my refuge – then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent
Just think if Jesus wasn’t diligent and remembered what vs. 9 & 10 said, that it’s in the MOST HIGH (God) that we should make our dwelling and not Satan (or sometimes even our own selfish ambition).
I say, “well played my Savior, well played”! Thank you for knowing the Word, taking the hit for us and calling Satan’s bluff. I am eternally grateful! Let’s take every opportunity provided to us to know the Word of God and know the Savior, you CAN do it!
